Authorship is a great new feature offered by Google that allows authors to link published content to their google profile.  Google Authorship offers immeasurable benefits to hobby bloggers and professional writers alike.

Content creators place a lot of value in their work, and they place a lot of emphasis on the ability to share what they produce.  By using this exciting new way of broadcasting their message, writers can ensure that their thoughts are communicated to a relevant and receptive audience.

How does Google Authorship work?

It is relatively common knowledge that Google operates around a series of algorithms that rank content based on a number of factors, including relevance and the quality of the information being provided.  Over the years, the public has responded by creating a very sophisticated system of search engine optimization techniques.

In an effort to continually improve the quality of the results provided by Google’s search function, the company has initiated a revolutionary new way of building on its previously used algorithms.  In August 2005, Google filed a patent application for what was known at the time as “Agent Rank”.  The patent is now complete, and Author Rank is here to stay.  In addition to previous methods of ranking search engine results, this new system will also rank content based on its author’s credibility.

The company’s pet project, Google Plus, is proving to be the perfect go-between.  Google Plus provides the connection that brings this entire system together.  By linking your content (found anywhere on the web) to your personal Google Plus profile, you give the search engine function its ability to identify the relationship between the words and their author.

What are the benefits of using Google Authorship?

First and foremost, your content will be easily recognizable.  Going forward, the work of registered authors will feature an author image next to the content.

In addition to the confidence boost this provides for the writer, it will also inevitably lead to higher click through rates.  People tend to gravitate toward information with associated visuals, and search findings are no exception.

You can bet that you will soon see a rise in the number of authors using Google Authorship as a way of “branding” their own content.  You can also be certain that search results that are linked to a verified author profile will be ranked higher than those that are not.  This trend is just around the corner, and it’s best to get started now to stay ahead of the curve.

For now, Google Authorship provides the benefit of targeted sharing.  This is something that has already taken effect.  It adds a social aspect to the results that are produced, as well as creating a more personalized search experience.  It is a known fact that many users stay logged in to their Google accounts for extended periods, and keep this window open while working in another.

Now you will find that organic search results are influenced by who is in your Google Plus circles.  If anyone found in your circles has produced content that may be relevant to your search, those results will rank higher than others.

Just like everything else Google does, you’ll want to stay tuned in on this one!  Google Authorship is going to make a huge impact, and we are excited to see what is in store for the future of organic search results.
