There were 2.8 billion active users on social media as of January 2017. This number may be hard to swallow, but it’s easy to believe when you consider just how significant social media and the internet are in today’s society. As a business owner embarking on the social media marketing journey, this is great news. However, it’s important to remember that not all of the nearly 3 billion people are using the same networks. The tricky part is figuring out what platforms work best for your business and your target demographic.
For example, if your customers are typically 35 years old and older, you are probably more likely to find them on Facebook and Pinterest than Twitter and Instagram. If you tend to target millennials, you will probably reach them more effectively on Instagram and Facebook than you would on Pinterest. As with any rule, however, there are always exceptions! It’s crucial to your social media success to figure out a plan that works for your specific needs and goals.
